How To Maintain Your Door Locks

We go in and out of multiple doors within our home and workplace each and every day, with little to no thought about the wear and tear of this daily use. From locking the front door with a key as we leave our home, to locking the bathroom door for privacy, to opening up shop-fronts to let customers in – locks (and most time keys), are needed for all of the above!

If you’re like most people, locks are often the last thing you think about when it comes to home maintenance. However, poorly maintained locks can make doors hard to open or result in broken or jammed keys – and these usually happen when we least expect or are in a rush to get out the door!

You might be relieved to know that maintaining locks is actually quite easy. The best place to start is to make sure all the visible screws are tight, and check that the door has not dropped or sagged. Also – don’t forget to lubricate the lock cylinder at least twice a year using a dry lubricant, not an oil-based lubricant.

Simply apply some dry lubricant to your key and work it into the lock. There are also some great dry lubricant sprays on the market that will do the trick.
